抄録: This article looks at the role of international trade in the process of economic development in some of the world's most advanced developing countries (the MDT countries) on the one side, and the world's least developed countries (LDCs) on the other. The comparison of trade patterns of these two country groups highlights the strong influence that trade may have on the development process. The influence can be a negative one, as is highlighted by the example of the average LDC. In order for the LDCs to size the opportunities that trade may provide them with, the article proceeds to develop recommendations for future trade policies.
