抄録: This study aims to investigate the problems of the principle of Meritocracy in terms of the theory of educational institution. Meritocracy as a principle of social constitution may seem to us the best principle on social justice. But it is not so when we understand that human beings are characteristic of plurality and individuality and that sociey is made up of such individuals. Therefore, from the standpoint of the theory of educational institution, we must investigate how the unity of individual development and social needs can be realized. After all, we must study the relation between individual and society, particularly market system. An individual in market system inclines to perceive himself as not communal being but private being. We must construct the theory of restoring individuals as communal. From above standpoints, I'll make clear the category of Meritocracy and its problems, and then I'll investigate the theory of J. Rawls.
