内容記述 | Sekkyo-joruri (Sekkyobusi) was a literally form of popular entertainment in medieval and early modern times in Japan, which narrated the wanderings of children of noble families. It was deeply influenced by Buddhist thought. But the Buddhism that appears in Sekkyo-joruri is not a direct expression of the thought of sutras or the founders of Japanese Buddhism. It is a form of dogma of a Buddhism order that took root in the everyday lives of commoners, so-called "Buddhism in everyday life." In particular, five elements appear in five important tales: "Sansho-dayu," "Shintoku-maru," "Oguri," "Karukaya," "Matura-tyoja." The first element is On (On-ai), which means "obligation" that brings individuals in the family system in medieval feudal society together. The second is Hi, meaning sorrow, as a way of accepting the suffering of commoners who cannot liberate themselves from it. The third is Jihi, meaning mercy; the fourth is Inga-ouho, meaning cause and effect. Both of these are given to man and deities. Buddha compensates the difficulty of Hi by comforting those who suffer. These four elements are intended to help cope with suffering. The fifth is Gosyo-daiji, meaning to take care of the life hereafter, whose element controls earthly life. | |||||
