In Japanese Sociology of Education, many papers used the word Region but its usage was so problematic. Although Spatial Turn in New Urban Sociology or Critical Geography made it possible to deal with Space, it cannot cover subjective “Region”. In contrast, the study of Place paid attention to meanings of space, but it was careless about its areas. In other words, sociology was concerned with not “Region” but Space or Place. To take up regional issues, this paper suggests the alternative concept Localism, which is to make an issue of subjective\n “Region” with its meanings and areas.
