The purpose of this article is to consider the possibility of the development of a new institutional approach to micro-level organizational analysis. Firstly, this article explains the features of a new institutional approach to organizational studies. Secondly, this article reviews a tendency of both institutional and new institutional approaches to micro-level organizational studies. This article reports that studies conducted in the 1990's of the micro-level as individual actor criticized initial views such as that action is determined by institutions. On the other hand, these studies emphasized the actor's agency. In turn, they considered “the paradox of embedded agency” and elaborated on the concept of agency. Moreover, this field of studies began to consider not only institutional change but also creating, maintaining, and disrupting institutions. Finally, this article considers the possibility of the development of a new institutional approach to micro-level organizational analysis.
