Review of Research on the Building Blocks

This paper reviews the studies on building blocks in ECEC (Early Childhood Education and Care) and the documents of ECEC practice to clarify the importance of building blocks in ECEC settings. Building blocks are one of the Froebel gifts, and the educational intention encouraged early childhood education. Findings from the studies illustrate that the blocks with simple shapes draw various actions and ideas from children. It also helps children interact with one another. However, there are few studies focusing on the effect of building blocks on children in practical situations, and further researches are needed.
