This paper reexamines the characteristics of ‘non-finite relative clauses’ in Armenian from a new nominalization theory perspective. It is shown that so-called participial relative clauses and infinitival relative clauses apply to ‘argument nominalizations’ and ‘event nominalizations’, respectively. This paper argues that genitive/possessive constructions are nominalizations formed from a nominal base. Participial and infinitival constructions, however, are verbal-based nominalizations developed based on the model of nominal-based nominalizations. / The proposed analysis sheds new light on the ‘nominalization’ argued in traditional Armenian grammars, according to which definite articles, possessive suffixes, and personal suffixes serve as nominalizers. The new nominalization theory, however, allows us to think that definite articles do not nominalize but serve to indicate that the subset in question is nominal, and is identifiable or familiar to the recipient. Possessive and personal suffixes are used to denote event participants. / On the other hand, genitive case endings serve as nominalizers for nominal-based constructions as shown in Shibatani’s (2009, 2019) cross-linguistic observation. We can detect some parallelism between infinitival and nominal-based nominalized constructions in this regard
