We found that whereas the car makers which produced medium to low class cars had a tendency to purchase each item of their parts from more than one supplier, those which produced high class cars purchased parts from only one supplier for each item. The car makers also have a tendency to purchase from neighboring areas. From Shanghai, where the car production is the largest, demand for parts spills over not only to Shanghai city, but also to neighboring Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces.
