In this paper, I attempt to relativize the boundary between school and cram school that has been formed by regarding school as “public” and cram school as “private” by focusing on a cram teacher who teaches at both school and cram school. I conducted a life story interview with a woman A (in her 20s at the time of the interview), who works at a cram school and teaches at several public elementary schools in the municipality with which the school is affiliated, to clarify her motivation for becoming a cram schoolteacher and how she views schools as a teacher who teaches both at school and at a cram school.
