Bāqeriyān presents sayyids both as the recipients of the love and respect God enjoined all believers to express towards them and as surrogates of the Fourteen Infallibles who share with the Infallibles the status of God’s chosen ones and the true inheritors of scripture. The book is comprised mainly of miracle stories involving sayyids. Many of these stories emphasize the supernatural powers that sayyids latently possess by depicting miracles of the ʿulamāʾ-cum-ʿurafāʾ (mystics) among them.
