It was the first work in South Asia written in Persian and dedicated to the discussion of the nobleness of the sayyids and the respect for them. This article analyzes the social background of Manāqib alsādāt and the Islamic culture described in it. In the fifteenth century, when the authority of the sayyid lineage was being acknowledged among Muslim political elites, al-Dawlatābādī emphasized respect for the sayyids as one of the indispensable elements in “proper” Islamic society and urged rulers to give privilege to them.
