This theory, which asserts that “Japan” and “Ryukyu/Okina wa” share the same ancestry, has been used as a governing theory to justify the annexation of Ryukyu in 1879. On the other hand, Okinawan intellectuals also sup ported this discourse to assert the equality of “Japan” and “Ryukyu/Okinawa.” In the same way, Okinawa also asserted the “Nichiryū Dōso Ron” for the purpose of resisting discrimination.\nHowever, the authors of \"Okinawa\" were not just blind believers in “Nichiryū Dōso Ron,” but asserted it in a performative manner. According to Slavoj Žižek, an ideology is not driven by the belief that it is true, but rather functions most power fully when it is carried out with a performative attitude, regardless of whether the discourse is true.
