Therefore, this paper clarifies the attributes of national university directors and external members of management councils using an originally created database. The main findings are as follows. First, an analysis of changes over time reveals that the number of female vice presidents has increased and that the number of extramural board members from the private sector and the legal profession has increased. Second, it was found that diversity in terms of gender, age, and other characteristics is not the result of intramural directors, but the contribution of extramural directors, and that many universities have a high percentage of alumni in both extramural directors and extramural members of the management council. Third, there were significant differences in the extent to which extramural individuals of any attribute were appointed, depending on the characteristics of the university.
