In the 1950s most schools did not have teacher librarians, but rather had school library staff. Those library staff began to work as school librarians. As the School Library Act had been amended in 1997, teacher librarians were put into schools throughout the country to do library work from 2003. The School Library Act was amended again in 2014, and the word \"school librarian\" was written into the act for the first time. MEXT occasionally changes of the job descriptions of school librarians, and there are also differences from the actual school librarians’ jobs.
