We examined the details and time schedulefor teaching of Gakushū Shidō Yōryō (The Course of Study) as a national curriculum, Manabikata Gaido (StudyGuide) of Sodegaura City Chiba Prefecture as a local curriculum and Manabikata Keitō-Hyō (Organized Table ofStudy) of Narawa elementary school as a school curriculum, and carried out participant observation ofcurriculum-related programs and interviews with interested parties. The results showed that all curricula requiredstudents to use the school library in their learning. The use of the school library was specified in the curricula forJapanese Language, Living Environment Studies, Social Studies, Integrated Studies and Special Activities. Wediscovered that students benefit from school libraries out of school hours as well.
