In addition, more numbers of elderly people are suffering fromdementia, and how they solve situations such as those in which “an elderly person is taking care of anotherelderly person,” “a dementia patient is taking care of another dementia patient,” or “an elderly person is takingcare of a disabled person” is now too much for just one community to handle. We thought we first needed a goodassessment of the situation, and based on the theme “social support for sustainable community in order to survivean aging society,” we have been working on solving the problems of the Second Inage Heights as our field work.As a “voluntary action” attempt, we first started attending the neighborhood council meetings and managementcouncil meetings, and attempted interviewing the attendees and their friends and neighbors, eventually figuringout the Inage Heights situation.
