We hand-pollinated two chloroplast DNA haplotypes (Ja/B1) of Aucuba japonica, a landscaping and horticultural plant species. The pollination success rate was calculated as the percentage of fertilized flowers to the total number of pollinated flowers. The average pollination success rate was 82.1% for Ja (female) × Ja (male), 75.3% for Ja × B1, 85.3% for B1 × Ja, and 78.6% for B1 × B1. A generalized linear model revealed no significant effects of paternal haplotype on the pollination success rate, except in the case of one maternal plant.
