Our study was designed to understand the offensive and defensive battle between plants armed with stilbenoid and microorganisms armed with stilbenoid detoxication enzyme. Stilbenoid is one of the most wellknown phytoalexins. We focused on Sphingomonas paucimobilis TMY1009 that produced four lignostilbenedioxygenase (LSD) isozymes, degrading stilbenoid type phytoalexin. LSD isozymes I, II, III, and IV were composed of αα, αβ, ββ and γγ subunits, respectively, and showed different substrate specificities. The genes of α and β subunits of LSDs have already been cloned and sequenced.The peptides of γ subunits digested by peptidase were analyzed for their N terminal amino acids.
