Dogen's rule is well known for providing monastic regulations in great detail. Previous research has maintained that these regulations are the development of \"shusho itto\" (the identity of principle and realization) in the sphere of everyday life, and so they cannot be regarded as mere ritual. It has been also maintained that though in content Dogen's rule marks a climax in the history of the development of such rules, it remains on the level of the mythological \"Baichang qinggui\" with regard to the importance placed on the spirit of monastic training. In recent years, however, Western Buddhist studies have revealed that these arguments were not only influenced by a Protestant point of view, but have also been determined by a historical view based on evolutionary theory that was imported after the modernization of Japan. Therefore, it is time to re-examine Dogen's rule from a different perspective. As a Buddhist monk, Dogen believed in \"shusho itto,\" the identity of principle and realization. He also saw himself as a legitimate successor to \"shoden no buppo,\" the transmission of the ultimate truth, and was concerned that he should continue the lineage of \"shoden no buppo.\" His rule is famous for providing for the detailed regulation of eating, bathing, and other aspects of monastic life, as evidence of his claim to be a legitimate successor to \"shoden no buppo.\" What, then, is the fundamental characteristic of Dogen's rule? Appropriate behavior in a certain community relies on a person's direct participation and the formation of a certain \"kata\" (or habitus). From this point of view, Dogen's rule indicates the rituals that form the \"kata\" of the religious personality - busso,\" or the embodiment of the transmission of the ultimate truth - that Dogen demanded of his disciples. As to the historical position of Dogen's rule, medieval Japan is characterized as an age of social specialization. Certain professions and skills were identified with certain \"ie\" (families), and therefore it was important to learn and acquire skills in order to continue the family line. Buddhist circles were influenced by these trends. Since Dogen's rule can be seen as a kind of instruction in the habitus of the religious personality, that is \"busso\" as successor to \"shoden no buppo,\" in this historical context we can say that it was natural for Dogen, as a member of medieval Japanese society, to write his rule with the intention of creating \" busso\" for the continuation of \"shoden no buppo,\" an analogical organization of the family.","subitem_description_type":"Abstract"}]},"item_4_full_name_3":{"attribute_name":"著者別名","attribute_value_mlt":[{"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"67143","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}],"names":[{"name":"KANEKO, Nao"}]}]},"item_4_identifier_registration":{"attribute_name":"ID登録","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_identifier_reg_text":"10.15083/00030594","subitem_identifier_reg_type":"JaLC"}]},"item_4_publisher_20":{"attribute_name":"出版者","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_publisher":"東京大学文学部宗教学研究室"}]},"item_4_source_id_8":{"attribute_name":"ISSN","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_source_identifier":"02896400","subitem_source_identifier_type":"ISSN"}]},"item_4_subject_15":{"attribute_name":"日本十進分類法","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_subject":"160","subitem_subject_scheme":"NDC"}]},"item_4_text_21":{"attribute_name":"出版者別名","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_text_value":"Department of Religious Studies.
