However, the still immature discipline seems to have some challenges to overcome. The present paper aimed to report a brief review of research on IU and point out the issues that could benefit from further considerations. First, the article reviews the theoretical background and definition of IU. Next, after taking a close look at the model presented by Mishel, scales used to measure IU are introduced, and findings from recent quantitative research are briefly reviewed.
