It focuses on primary school teacher Heinrich wolgast and other educators who criticized literature for children with patriotic, religious or moral tendencies ('children's tendentious literature'), as well as on the arguments of their critics. Wolgast and his colleagues were to opposed to such literature because they believed that an important educational aim for children in primary school was the development of 'Genußfähigkeit'(a sense of aesthetic appreciation), and that these kind of stories interfered with it. Arguing that children couldn't acquire morality before building 'Genußfähigkeit', they tried to reverse the trend toward children's tendentios literature. On the other hand, those who supported this literature considered moral education as a means of inculcating moral precepts.
