Although many (E)SL/(E)FL classroom research have been taken over the years, most of them examine the (E)SL classrooms overseas and it is rare to find T(E)FL classroom research in Japan. In order to look at the EFL classroom discourse in detail, the current study relies on and refers to the thoughts from the three different areas: classroom research, research of the classes in Japan and classroom discourse study in Japan and overseas. By reviewing the background literature on classroom research, the two shortcomings are presented: lack of participant-relevant perspectives by practioners as well as the confusion of too many methods and approaches.
