I decided to look at the early example of High School Integrated studies intended to be taught using the perspective of self directed learning in Japan after World War II. I selected and analyzed the following examples : (1) the teaching method used for Current Topics at the early stage in post war era, (2) the voluntary practice of the tentative reform plan of a course of study which was proposed by the Japanese Teacher's Union in 1976. This practice took place at Wako High School, (3) the practice of teaching Environmental Studies using self directed leaning method at Kogane High School in the 1990's. As a result, it became clear that the proper leaning environment, equipment for the research, and support network is necessary for self directed learning.
