Geodetic means, i.e. repetition of precise surveys in a seismic area, have been the principal data sources in this research field. However, it is generally difficult to repeat the surveys frequently. Thus some complementary means are needed in order to observe the episode of strain accumulation at.a fixed point continuously. Instruments for this purpose must be provided with long-term stability which is comparable to the geodetic means'to be complemented.
