These results, in this region, show that the Pacific Plate and Philippine Sea Plate thrust beneath the North American Plate. So, it is very important to know the shapes of those subducting plates. The seismograms of microearthquakes recorded by HIT (Hitachi) station show a sharp impulsive phase between direct P and S waves. This phase was identified as PS converted wave at the upper boundary of the subducting parts of the Pacific Plate. The use of these converted phases proved to be a practical and highly promising method for depth determination of the upper plate boundary. In this study, the PS converted waves were used to locate the upper boundary of the subducting parts of the Pacific Plate.
