The amount of foreign direct investment into Thailand skyrocketed in the latter half of the 1980s, and the Thai economy grew at an unprecedentedly high rate. But the financial and currency crisis in 1997 changed such trends drastically. Short-term foreign investment deserted Thailand in a very short period of time. The prices of real estate and stocks nose-dived, and a large number of banks and financial companies went bankrupt. Before the crisis, many Thais believed that globalization would reduce the importance of the national boundary, because goods, capital, and information became able to move more freely and quickly across the border. But the Asian economic crisis in 1997 showed that the extent and nature of the adverse impact of the crisis could differ considerably from country to country, depending very much upon how each country's government reacted to the crisis. The growing number of developing countries adopted liberalization policies to attract foreign investment in the past two decades. With so many developing countries vying for foreign investment, not only long-term direct investment but also short-term portfolio investment, small differences in host countries economic policies can result in rapid and massive shift of foreign capital from one country to another. Many of the market-oriented entrepreneurs and the middle classes in Thailand came to think that they needed political reform to make their economy recover from the crisis. They succeeded in promulgating a new constitution in 1997 and new election laws in the following years. However, it still remains to see how effective these political reforms will be. The difficulty they face is that their visions for desirable ways of policy making and implementation are not shared with the rural poor, who still far outnumber the middle classes. The income of the rural poor did not increase as impressively as that of the middle classes even during the economic boom period. The rationalization of the policy making process, which is seen by many of the middle classes as a necessary condition for the market to function properly, is not so appealing to the rural poor, because they do not expect such market-oriented reforms to improve their standard of living significantly.","subitem_description_type":"Abstract"}]},"item_4_full_name_3":{"attribute_name":"著者別名","attribute_value_mlt":[{"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"136422","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}],"names":[{"name":"Asami, Yasuhito"}]}]},"item_4_identifier_registration":{"attribute_name":"ID登録","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_identifier_reg_text":"10.15083/00037302","subitem_identifier_reg_type":"JaLC"}]},"item_4_publisher_20":{"attribute_name":"出版者","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_publisher":"東京大学大学院総合文化研究科附属アメリカ太平洋地域研究センター"}]},"item_4_source_id_10":{"attribute_name":"書誌レコードID","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_source_identifier":"AA11562201","subitem_source_identifier_type":"NCID"}]},"item_4_source_id_8":{"attribute_name":"ISSN","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_source_identifier":"13462989","subitem_source_identifier_type":"ISSN"}]},"item_4_subject_15":{"attribute_name":"日本十進分類法","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_subject":"312.9","subitem_subject_scheme":"NDC"}]},"item_4_text_21":{"attribute_name":"出版者別名","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_text_value":"Center for Pacific and American Studies of The University of Tokyo"}]},"item_4_text_4":{"attribute_name":"著者所属","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_text_value":"一橋大学"}]},"item_creator":{"attribute_name":"著者","attribute_type":"creator","attribute_value_mlt":[{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"浅見, 靖仁"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"136421","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}]}]},"item_files":{"attribute_name":"ファイル情報","attribute_type":"file","attribute_value_mlt":[{"accessrole":"open_date","date":[{"dateType":"Available","dateValue":"2017-06-27"}],"displaytype":"detail","filename":"atk001011.pdf","filesize":[{"value":"1.5 MB"}],"format":"application/pdf","licensetype":"license_note","mimetype":"application/pdf","url":{"label":"atk001011.pdf","url":"https://repository.dl.itc.u-tokyo.ac.jp/record/37311/files/atk001011.pdf"},"version_id":"87182f5d-2914-4ae5-ad4a-9c2e0b0bbf91"}]},"item_language":{"attribute_name":"言語","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_language":"jpn"}]},"item_resource_type":{"attribute_name":"資源タイプ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"resourcetype":"departmental bulletin paper","resourceuri":"http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501"}]},"item_title":"グローバリゼーションとタイ","item_titles":{"attribute_name":"タイトル","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_title":"グローバリゼーションとタイ"}]},"item_type_id":"4","owner":"1","path":["5815","5814"],"pubdate":{"attribute_name":"公開日","attribute_value":"2010-03-16"},"publish_date":"2010-03-16","publish_status":"0","recid":"37311","relation_version_is_last":true,"title":["グローバリゼーションとタイ"],"weko_creator_id":"1","weko_shared_id":null},"updated":"2022-12-19T04:11:58.661317+00:00"}
