This essay or what may best be described as some preparatory note tries to trace back the well-trodden path of symbolic changes from Ariel to Caliban, reconsidering their vicissitudes of interpretations and finding out those intricacies and ambiguities which refuse any kinds of recapitulations. Edward W. Said’s overview of this cultural history reveals unwittingly some obvious but often neglected importance of Ariel, who, as a collaborator of colonization as well as a creator of independent movements, remains one of the central representations of the intellectuals. Rob Nixon’s now notorious essay, a highly devastating criticism of the present-day third world culture and society, can be easily refuted by the discursive strategy with which he attacked the postcolonial rewritings of Caliban, those rewritings which have, according to Nixon, failed to encounter any objective correlatives in their real politics. Jonathan Goldberg’s marvelous queer reading opened up some critical space in which we can reconsider two advocates, Rodó, an author of Ariel and Retamar, a Cuban critic of the collection of essays Caliban. In each discourse Ariel and Caliban get intermingled, crossed and interchangeable, making boon companions instead of opponents in their cultural resistance. Rodó’s antidemocratic vision and Retamar’s notorious homophobia, two targets of postmodern theoretical attacks, turn out to be some voice of their own situation of historical crisis if they can be put within their original contexts. Any detailed analysis of Ariel and Caliban will reveal that their hitherto conventional images are not sustained only to leave us enigmatic queer monsters for further explorations.","subitem_description_type":"Abstract"}]},"item_4_description_6":{"attribute_name":"内容記述","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_description":"特集 ラテン文学","subitem_description_type":"Other"},{"subitem_description":"論文","subitem_description_type":"Other"}]},"item_4_full_name_3":{"attribute_name":"著者別名","attribute_value_mlt":[{"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"88664","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}],"names":[{"name":"Ohashi, Yoichi"}]}]},"item_4_identifier_registration":{"attribute_name":"ID登録","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_identifier_reg_text":"10.15083/00037452","subitem_identifier_reg_type":"JaLC"}]},"item_4_publisher_20":{"attribute_name":"出版者","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_publisher":"現代文芸論研究室"}]},"item_4_source_id_10":{"attribute_name":"書誌レコードID","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_source_identifier":"AA1243121X","subitem_source_identifier_type":"NCID"}]},"item_4_text_4":{"attribute_name":"著者所属","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_text_value":"東京大学大学院人文社会系研究科"}]},"item_creator":{"attribute_name":"著者","attribute_type":"creator","attribute_value_mlt":[{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"大橋, 洋一"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"88663","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}]}]},"item_files":{"attribute_name":"ファイル情報","attribute_type":"file","attribute_value_mlt":[{"accessrole":"open_date","date":[{"dateType":"Available","dateValue":"2017-06-13"}],"displaytype":"detail","filename":"reny004010.pdf","filesize":[{"value":"1.2 MB"}],"format":"application/pdf","licensetype":"license_note","mimetype":"application/pdf","url":{"label":"reny004010.pdf","url":"https://repository.dl.itc.u-tokyo.ac.jp/record/37461/files/reny004010.pdf"},"version_id":"e8ac0196-6665-42c0-bd90-9e8831f05703"}]},"item_language":{"attribute_name":"言語","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_language":"jpn"}]},"item_resource_type":{"attribute_name":"資源タイプ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"resourcetype":"departmental bulletin paper","resourceuri":"http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501"}]},"item_title":"エアリルとキャリバン : ラテン・アメリカにおけるシェイクスピア的人物の文化史への覚書","item_titles":{"attribute_name":"タイトル","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_title":"エアリルとキャリバン : ラテン・アメリカにおけるシェイクスピア的人物の文化史への覚書"}]},"item_type_id":"4","owner":"1","path":["5842","5841"],"pubdate":{"attribute_name":"公開日","attribute_value":"2013-05-01"},"publish_date":"2013-05-01","publish_status":"0","recid":"37461","relation_version_is_last":true,"title":["エアリルとキャリバン : ラテン・アメリカにおけるシェイクスピア的人物の文化史への覚書"],"weko_creator_id":"1","weko_shared_id":null},"updated":"2022-12-19T04:12:10.322117+00:00"}
