The concept was put forward by a Polish poet Zenon Fajfer in 1999 and has been theoretically developed by the author of the article. The term, derived from Latin \"liber\" meaning the book, stresses material aspects as signifying constituents of the literary work, intentionally shaped by the author. The generic name determines a horizon of expectation; in effect, it influences the readers'response to the work by directing their attention to verbal and non-verbal components and points to a need of integrative reading in which these two components should be interpreted along one another. The new genre is understood as a fuzzy set whose elements share some characteristic features, including non-verbal and typographic means of expression, spatial composition of the text, iconicity, self-reflexivity or metatextuality, hybridity, interactivity and ergodic quality, intentionality, materiality, and medium specificity.
