内容記述タイプ Abstract
内容記述 The various effects of stress on the magnetization of ferromagnetic metals are of such a complex character that no simple relation seems to exist among them. The strains caused by magnetizing the ferromagnetics are of no less complex a nature, so that the co-ordination of these two classes of complicated phenomena is, up to the present, still a matter of doubt. Various isolated facts, such as the analogies between the change of magnetization by longitudinal pull and that of length by magnetization, the relation between the twist caused by the interaction of longitudinal and circular magnetizations and the circular or longitudinal magnetization produced by twisting a longitudinally or circularly magnetized wire respectively, were long considered as affording a clue to the explanation of these phenomena. So far as we are aware, no attempt has yet been made to place all of these different phenomena on a common footing. Some time ago, we hinted at the probable connections which exist between the twist caused by passing an electric current through a longitudinally magnetized wire and the change of volume and of length in ferromagnetic metals produced by magnetization. The said relation can also be extended to the explanation of other phenomena; namely, the transient current produced by twisting a magnetized wire and the longitudinal magnetization caused by twisting a circularly magnetized wire. It is our object in the present paper to show that these different phenomena can be linked together in a common bond.
