Recent studies have suggested that the change in intramuscular metabolism under BFR exercise may contribute to muscle fatigue. In the present study, we investigated the kinetics of intramuscular metabolism during resistance exercise with BFR. Unilateral plantar flexion exercise was performed at 20% of one-repetition maximum with three conditions of BFR [0(no restriction, CON), 180 (BFR-Low), and 230mmHg (BFR-High)]. Change in inorganic phosphate (Pi) and intramuscular pH was recorded continuously during the entire protocol by phosphorus magnetic resonance spectroscopy. During the exercise, Pi was significantly higher in BFR-High than other conditions. The decline in pH was significantly greater in BFR-High than other conditions, but the value did not low level at even BFR-High.
