In such the field, it has been hard to apply the conventional technique. A new combined velocity and temperature measurement approach is proposed, using a high speed camera, a single-pulsed UV laser and temperature sensitive phosphor particles (TSParticles). TSParticles, the powders of rare earth-doped ceramics are utilized as tracer particles of particle image velocimetry (PIV). The purpose of the present study was to establish this technique in a flow field at high temperature. In the present report, thermal properties of TSParticles were investigated. At first the phosphor material was painted on the solid wall in an engine cylinder, and the instantaneous temperature was measured.
