In order to judge whether special morae are independent or not, we take advantage of the characteristic that the same musical phrases are repeated in a song, rather than analyzing the notes’ patterns of the scores, as in previous studies.\n The results show the sequence /J/ > /N/ > /Q/ > /R/ in descending order of independence. The rate of independence of /R/ is low in this study, whereas it is relatively high in preceding studies. The results of the chi-square test show that the rate of independence of /R/ is significantly lower than that of /J/ and /N/.
