During my visit to Chengdu, a Tibetan scholar showed me a recently published sumptuous volume entitled Zangqu minjian suocang Zangwen zhenxi wenxian congshu 蔵区民間所蔵　蔵文 珍稀文献叢書 (Chengdu: Sichuan Minzu Chubanshe 四川民族出版社 and Guangming Ribao Chubanshe 光明日報出版社, 2015), which contains reproductions of valuable old manuscripts held in private collections in Tibetan ethnic regions. These include the Āmnāyamañjarī, a commentary on the Sampuṭa-tantra by Abhayākaragupta, the last great scholar of Indian Buddhism; a collection of poems by the founder of the Tibetan Kagyü school; and the sDom gsum gyi gźuṅ lugs legs par bśad pa by sPos khaṅ pa ’jam dbyaṅs rin chen rgyal mtshan.\n But when I looked at the manuscript of the Āmnāyamañjarī, I could not believe my eyes, for above the Tibetan translation written in dbu med script the corresponding original Sanskrit text had been written in the Wartu script. To date, no Sanskrit manuscript of the Āmnāyamañjarī has been discovered, and only a single folio has been identified among Sanskrit manuscripts obtained by the University of Göttingen in Germany from the K. P. Jayaswal Research Institute in Patna, India.\n A similar example to that of the Āmnāyamañjarī is the currently circulating Sanskrit text of the Avadānakalpalatā, which was recovered from a Sanskrit- Tibetan text published by the printing house in Źol.
