Many studies on evidentiality and epistemicity suggest some type of mental processing of information and knowledge within the knowledge space of humans. One such type involves activation, which is referred to by Chafe (1973, 1994). For Sibe, Kogura (2013a, b) suggested that a modal particle =ŋe stands for this activation of knowledge that is already in the knowledge space of humans. However, this particle =ŋe can only follow the perfective (V-Xe) and imperfective (V-maχe) but not irrealis (V-re); thus, in Sibe, the mental processing of activation can only be applied for knowledge about realis states of affairs.
