But the reversal of this power balance advanced in the latter part of the medieval period, and centralization of the government was promoted. The religiousness generated by the close relationship between the Church and the secular powers in the earlier part of the period can be classified as Religiousness A, which can be categorized by an attitude to pray to the transcendent being for peace in this world and the other world. Meanwhile, Religiousness B can be described as a sense of the transcendent canon ruling this world. In the latter part of the medieval period, two more kinds of religiousness are recognizable in addition to Religiousness A and B. Indeed, Religiousness C can be characterized by individualization and internalization, while Religiousness D can be illustrated by quantification and visualization more or less caused by money and economic development. These four kinds of religiousness can be seen in church architecture.
