This paper provides a detailed description of this construction. \n It is shown that the construction has two major subschemas, each of which has a distinct semantic characteristic that pertains to the relationship between the main clause event and the subordinate clause event: the enabling sense and the timing sense. In addition, it is argued that there are many conventional expressions which instantiate “chizu-o tayori-ni”construction, and that higher-level constructional schemas, including the enabling schema and timing schema, provide motivation for these conventional expressions.
