Participants were six tutoring pairs who were asked to answer Thompson’s (2010) questionnaires on the writing centre tutorial they engaged in and were interviewed based on their responses. The results showed that tutors perceived tutorial success in terms of their contribution as a tutor, including whether they addressed the students’ needs during a session or adequately answered the students’ questions. Additionally, some tutors also defined tutorial success in terms of their student’s development as a writer. On the other hand, the key factors that contributed to tutees’ perceptions of tutorial success included satisfaction with their session, satisfaction with their revised paper, and their writing development.
