The relatlionship between landscape patterns and distribution of fauna in the Tokyo metropolitan area are analyzed. It can be concluded that the rural landscape patterns characterized by the combination of residential areas, farmlands, and secondary forests contribute to conserve the diversity of fauna and play an important role as the source of species, the route for immigration of species, and the refuge for species.
