It is argued that by using “N(P) ma” in this way, the speaker urges the addressee to infer the (typically causal) relation holding between its content and the preceding context by drawing on his or her encyclopedic knowledge about the N(P)’s referent. In the vast majority of cases, since the N(P) designates a type, the addressee can easily access the relevant information. This makes it unnecessary to make that information explicit in the following sentence.
