宿主の環境適応(進化)に大きな役割を担う. 中でもプラスミドに関しては, 約60年前にその存在が発見されて以来, それらの抗生物質耐性能や新規代謝能をコードする遺伝子の解析だけでなく, 複製・分配・接合伝達といったプラスミドの維持や伝播を司る遺伝子の解析, それに基づく分類, 有用なベクターの開発など, 膨大な知見が蓄積している. しかし, こうした研究では, プラスミドの機能は様々な宿主内で同様であると盲目的に考え, 宿主染色体の違いや周囲の環境によって変化する細胞内環境の違いを考慮しないことがほとんどであった. さらに, その細胞内環境もプラスミド自体の存在によってまた変化しうると予想される. プラスミドを保持することが\"負荷\"になる場合があることは古くから経験的に知られているが, プラスミドによって宿主細胞内に起こる変化の実体は未だ解明な部分が多い. そこで本研究では, IncP-7群カルバゾール分解プラスミドpCAR1とゲノム既知のPseudomonas属宿主3種(P. putida KT2440株, P. aeruginosa PAO1株, P. fluorescens Pf0-1株)をモデルとして, プラスミドが宿主細胞内で機能する様式を整理し,
