内容記述 | The primary aim of the current paper is to explore the role of literary texts in university English classrooms in Japan. Reflecting the fact that most studies in this area have been theoretical and a growing interest in empirical studies which employ a close examination of learners'interactions and responses in a natural classroom setting, this qualitative study shows how literature or literary texts work in the context of EFL based on analysis of four case studies. The findings suggest that literary texts can incorporate a variety of classroom activities which generate an opportunity for active communication and interpretations. In addition, the study shows that learners evaluate highly those texts as motivating and meaningful materials, and it consequently indicates that literary texts can play a significant role in university EFL classrooms in Japan. | |||||
