In response to the global spread of COVID-19, which has had a profound effect on school education, this study aimed to understand the situations and concerns experienced by schools and teachers based on teachers’ awareness of these situations. An online questionnaire survey was conducted with schoolteachers throughout Japan, excluding those in managerial positions, and valid responses were acquired from 401 teachers in 45 prefectures. Data were quantitatively processed, and results were interpreted in terms of differences in individual attributes, such as years of teaching experience, school type, and mode of employment, and issuance of a special alert in the school’s region. The results were examined from four perspectives: (1) teachers’ working hours, (2) teachers’ anxieties, (3) teachers’ counseling partners, and (4) the use of information and communication technology by teachers and schools during the COVID-19 pandemic. Factors related to the characteristic results obtained for each perspective were examined to consider how schools and teachers might operate during and after the pandemic. |
