内容記述タイプ Abstract
内容記述 Since the extant Tocharian texts are chiefly related to Buddhism, the disciplines of Indo-European linguistics and Buddhology have cooperated right from the beginning of the academic study of Tocharian. Recently, moreover, the study of Tocharian has been making great progress both in terms of linguistics and philology. Nevertheless, some of the outcomes of early achievements have not been verified so far. This paper examines one of the outcomes. / There is a fragment, THT 109, the left side of which is largely damaged. As of 1953, the fragment was described as follows: “The context of the text, which has become opaque due to the gaps, can almost certainly be reconstructed by the use of a parallel from the Saṅghabhedavastu of the Mūlasarvāstivādins, that we owe to Prof. Waldschmidt (Der hier durch die Lücken undurchsichtig gewordene Textzusammenhang läßt sich durch eine Parallele aus dem Saṅghabhedavastu der Mūlasarvāstivādins, die wir Herrn Prof. Waldschmidt verdanken, mit ziemlicher Sicherheit rekonstruieren).” However, it has not been stated where the parallel from the Saṅghabhedavastu is. Presumably, the parallel is the Sanskrit Saṅghabhedavastu[ ed. R. GNOLI, II 36.17–41.21], the Tibetan translation[ bKa’ ’gyur, ’Dul ba; D Ṅa 135b1–139a5, P Ce 130a1–133b2, S Ṅa 181b4–187a2], and the Chinese [Taishō 24, no. 1450, 160c8–162a27]. However, Waldschmidt probably could not make use of the Sanskrit Saṅghabhedavastu. / THT 109 describes three scenes: (1) Yaśodharā seduces the Buddha with the offer of sweetness[ THT 109a10],(2) Yaśodharā throws herself off a building [ THT 109b2–4],(3) a narrative of a kinnara and kinnarī[ THT 109b5–9]. In terms of each of the three scenes, this paper compares THT 109 with the Saṅghabhedavastu, Mahāvastu[ ed. É. SENART, II 94.15–114.22; III 143.2–10, 271.14–272.17], Da zhidu lun[ Taishō 25, no. 1509, 183a1–15], and Jātaka[ Ja IV 282.16–288.23 (no. 485)]. It is only the Saṅghabhedavastu that describes Yaśodharā’s suicide attempt by throwing herself off a building. Therefore, of these materials, the Saṅghabhedavastu is the most informative for the study of THT 109. However, although THT 109a2–8 is associated with the Saṅghabhedavastu, it is not so close that “the context of the text ... can almost certainly be reconstructed.” / As researchers of Buddhism, we need to be deeply grateful for Waldschmidt’s contribution, and more interested also in Tocharian texts.
