内容記述 | This paper is to re-examine the meritocracy in Japanese education from the perspective of the disabled, to reposition the failure of the disabled in education as the construction of the meritocratic system embedded in Japanese education. In perspectives of functional, conflict, interpretive, constructive, dilemmatic, and reflexive theories of meritocracy, this study analyzes how special education in Japan has been constructed in response to the needs of meritocratic education. It found that several turning points in the history of special education, which appears in many previous studies as the accomplishments of stakeholders of special education, were in fact by-products of meritocracy. Following the reflexive response of meritocracy in recent years, more and more pupils are labeled as failures of the selection system, and special education became the subordinate to accept those who failed from the significant competition under the meritocratic system. As a result, Not only does meritocracy force to situate persons with disabilities underclass, but it creates more disabilities to send them to special education as failures. In fact, the meritocratic system continues to create new targets to be labeled as failures, as well as to widen the gap between failed losers and successful winners. | |||||||||
