| 内容記述 | 沖縄県八重山郡与那国町で話されている南琉球語与那国方言には，Nnu「昨日」，NKaCi「昔」やTa「蓋」，Kuru「袋」のように，通時的に狭母音を含む音節の撥音化と喉頭化音化（あるいは促音化）が広く観察される一方，niCi「北〈ニシ〉」，nuTi「横糸〈ヌキ〉」やkiCi「崖〈キシ〉」，huCi「蓬〈フツ〉」のように，狭母音であっても撥音・喉頭化音（促音）に変化していない例も見られる。また，muN「麦」（cf. Ndu「溝」）やCiN「死〈シニ〉」（cf. Nni「死んで」）のように，複数の音節に変化を生じる可能性がある場合，どの音節が変化するかについても明らかではない。そのため本稿では，公刊された資料に基づき，与那国方言の撥音化と喉頭化音化の条件と相対年代について分析・考察を行う。その結果，次の2 つの条件が音変化に関わることがわかった：1. 後続音節の母音の広さ，2. 語の長さ。このうち，母音の広さについては，与那国方言だけでなく，南琉球諸語，さらには琉球諸語や本土方言でも広く音韻変化の条件となっている可能性があることについても述べる。 | |||||||||

| 内容記述 | In this paper, I analyze and consider the elision of close vowels in the Yonaguni dialect spoken in Yonaguni island, Okinawa prefecture. In the Yonaguni dialect, elision of close vowels has historically occurred, resulting in a change to N (moraic nasal) and glottalized consonants, such as in Nnu ‘yesterday’, NKaCi ‘old days’, Ta ‘lid’, and Kuru ‘bag’. While elision of close vowels is widely observed in the Yonaguni dialect, there are some cases where close vowels did not drop such as in niCi ‘north’, nuTi ‘weft’, kiCi ‘cliff’, and huCi ‘mugwort’. Also, it is not clear which syllable(s) will change if multiple syllables have close vowels, such as in muN ‘wheat’ (cf. Ndu ‘groove’) and CiN ‘death’ (cf. Nni ‘die (converb)’). Therefore, based on published materials, I analyze the conditions of the elision of close vowels in the Yonaguni dialect and consider the relative chronology. I find that the following two conditions are related to the sound change: 1. the aperture of the vowel in the succeeding syllable, and 2. the length of the word. I note that the aperture of vowels may be a condition for phonological change not only of the Yonaguni dialect but also of other Ryukyuan languages and the Japanese dialects. | |||||||||
