| 内容記述 | Although it is well known that reverence for the Twelve Imams (imamophilia) pread among medieval Sunnis, researchers have paid less attention to the diversity of their confessional self-identities. To explore this issue, this study focuses on how such Sunnis have discussed the identification of the Twelfth Imam, Muhammad b．al-Hasan, with the mahdī (savior), by analyzing their fadāʾil (virtues) works on the Imams in the 12th ─14thcenturies. The attitudes of Sunni authors toward this “Shiʿi-originated” theory can be classified into three categories: de-Shiʿitized affirmance, Sunni-Shiʿi mixed affirmance, and denial. Ibn Talha, al-Kanjī, and Sibt Ibn al-Jawzī agree with the mahdīship of Muhammad b. al-Hasan without citing Shiʿi materials, while ʿUmar b. Muhammad and Sadr al-Dīn al-Hammūyī do not hesitate in using Shiʿi traditions. Al-Junābadhī and al-Zarandī deny the mahdīship of the Twelfth Imam. These attitudes show that imamophilia does not always mean the weakening of Sunni self-identity. | |||||||||
