| 内容記述 | In modern India, the rites that the Hindus should perform are often listed as being sixteen. The lists are generally called “ṣoḍaśa-saṃskāra.” The Nambudiri Brahmins in Kerala, where the Vedic tradition is comparatively well kept, also have such a list which they call “ṣoḍaśa-kriyā.” Kerala’s list has several significant differences from those in the other regions of India. What the ṣoḍaśa-kriyā includes but the ṣoḍaśa-saṃskāras of the different areas do not are the detailed rites for learning the Veda and setting up fires necessary for the Vedic rituals. On the other hand, it does not include the funeral ritual, while the other regions do. These characteristics of the ṣoḍaśa-kriyā reflect the ancient Vedic tradition kept in today’s Kerala. | |||||||||
