| 内容記述 | This study aims to clarify the international network of “anti-communist” liberal intellectuals in the 1950’s by examining the activities of the Foreign Leader Program and the Japan Cultural Forum. This study analyzes the activities in Japan based on the history of the establishment of the Foreign Leader Program and the Congress for Cultural Freedom, as well as the activities in France. Although there was no direct relationship between the Foreign Leader Program run by the U.S. State Department and the Congress for Cultural Freedom which was a group of “anti-communist” liberal intellectuals organized on a non-governmental basis, there were individuals who participated in both activities in France and Japan. By examining their activities, this study argues that in responding to domestic contexts, their activities were sometimes contradicted with the principal purpose of the Foreign Leader Program and the Congress for Cultural Freedom, and sometimes failed to achieve the expected effect. | |||||||||
