Owen (1771-1858) have been studied from the various points of view, and have been highly appreciated. However, theory and practice of R. Owen concerning the labour education have not been satisfactorily clarified by those preceeding studies. Their opinions might be reduced to the following three kinds, (1) R. Owen united labou with education in the true sense of the words. (2) It was not until the issue of the \u0027Report to Lanak\u0027 (1821) that Owen clarified his ideas about the combination of labour and education. (3) Owen did neither recognize nor insist the importance of labour in education. In this thesis, I attempted to clarify his educational activities in the New Harmony of Equality, because, as has often been pointed out, his theory which was represented in his \u0027Report to Lanark\u0027 was put into practice in New Harmony, and found that not R. Owen himself but Maclure a pestalozzian who considered school labour as a means of self-support of the school practiced it. Maclure\u0027s opinion could not harmonize with Owen\u0027s social, humanistic and philanthropic standpoint. 内容記述 | Up to this time, the educational ideas of R. Owen (1771-1858) have been studied from the various points of view, and have been highly appreciated. However, theory and practice of R. Owen concerning the labour education have not been satisfactorily clarified by those preceeding studies. Their opinions might be reduced to the following three kinds, (1) R. Owen united labou with education in the true sense of the words. (2) It was not until the issue of the 'Report to Lanak' (1821) that Owen clarified his ideas about the combination of labour and education. (3) Owen did neither recognize nor insist the importance of labour in education.
