内容記述タイプ Abstract
内容記述 The thesis of this paper is to reconsider of the concept ""Region"" in Sociology of Education from the view of ""Socio-Spatial theory"". Today, we have got so many problems involved regional aspects, so the concepts of ""Region"" could be seen everywhere. In this circumstance, the concept is used in various meanings. However, it seems that a common epistemological stand is latently accompanied by the general use of ""Region"". It is the assumption that ""Region"" is a fixed spatial unity we take for granted. Since that fails to grasp the social characteristics of regional phenomena, we need to reflect on the spatiality of ""Region"" for appropriate analyses. In this paper, I aim to make clear how the concept ""Region"" has been used as an analytic concept in traditional Sociology of Education. Briefly, Sociology of Education has focused on social structure thought of being covered whole state, and through the dominant perception of space which is derived from modern society, it has had a complete disregard for socio-spatial analytic viewpoints and hasn't required making issues of them. Hence, the concept of ""Region"" has been treated as a mere territorial unit without spatiality, in other words, homogeneous space in studies on regional differences of college enrollment rate, for instance. That indicates the methodology of regional structure analysis and the epistemology of region based on existent districts may lose sight of socio-spatiality of ""Region"", that is, what the regional space is composed : the sociological meaning of the boundary and regional space formation according to a reflection of how we determine ""Region"" socially. In conclusion, it is important to become conscious of the spatiality of ""Region"", especially our spatial recognition which has relation to social activities and regional mechanisms. Characteristically, the concept of ""Region"" results from the inevitable relation between a socio-spatial form and a dynamic social process of regional space. Thus the space of ""Region"" must be reconsidered from this viewpoint stressed on the relative socio-spatial perception.
